Understanding the Quitline: Connecting Communities to Cessation Support

In this segment, Donald Reed shares how tobacco cessation workshops can go beyond the basics and continue to grow in impact. While the current tools and structure are effective, he encourages participants to begin thinking about the next level of training and leadership within their communities.

He introduces an opportunity through West Virginia University—a 24-hour online Tobacco Treatment Specialist training. While it requires commitment, the program provides deeper knowledge and confidence in helping others quit tobacco. Through the Center for Black Health and Equity, seven individuals will have the opportunity to become certified, with the requirement of at least an associate’s degree and a willingness to complete the training.

Reed emphasizes that support is available throughout the process, encouraging anyone interested to connect with Rhonda Robinson for guidance. His message is simple: the network is ready to grow, and by investing in additional training, these workshops can become even more effective in helping communities move toward lasting change.
